Finishing your Quiet Book

Cover Instructions:
I didn't take pictures of making the cover (sorry!) but I thought the instructions were really good! Instead of doing the handles like the pattern said, I used 1 1/3 yd. of the webbing and sewed it on the outside of the cover 4" from top and bottom of  cover to make handles.

Page Assembly Instructions:
Trim each finished page to 10 1/2" x 12 1/2". On the back of each page fuse 1/2" strip of paper-backed fusible web (heat-n-bond) onto each of the four sides.

Mark the center line on each page backing piece, 1/2" on each side of the center line and 1" from top and bottom. Position finished page on page backing 1" from the top and bottom and 1/2" from the center of the page. Fuse in place. Repeat until there are 2 finished pages on each page backing.

Blanket stitch all the way around each finished page. Fold page backing in half, with right sides together and sew 1/4" from top and bottom, leaving the side open(making a pocket). Clip corners and turn right side out. Press outer edges.

Insert one 11" x 13 1/4" piece of Peltex into the page backing (pocket) and position it all the way in.

Make sure that the seams on the inside of the page backing are all on the same side of the Peltex. Fuse the Peltex in place avoiding the more delicate areas of the finished page.

Inner Binding:

Lay your 4”x 14 1/2” piece of fabric on the Peltex with the fusible side to the back, right side of fabric facing up. Turn over and carefully fuse each edge of the fabric to the back of the Peltex. Top stitch top and bottom. This piece is called the binding.

Position a completed page on the binding, with the front down, ½” from the right edge of the binding.

Sew from top to bottom of edge of page, barely catching the raw edge.

Fold the page back and press, pressing the page with the front up, covering the sewing line with the page.

Sew from the top to bottom again, sewing through the page and over the original sewing line, backstitching at each end

This will cover the original sewing line and the raw edge of the fabric.

Repeat with each completed page, spacing about ½” apart. This gets kind of tuff because the pages get in the way!

It will look like this when you have all 5 pages sewn on.

Lay the binding inside the cover and position in the center.

Pin in place. Sew from top to bottom on each side, backstitching at the top and bottom
You will want to make this a very straight stitch, because it will show on the outside of the book binding.
